Sedgwick County to remain at Level Red through Christmas - Julesburg Advocate

Although Sedgwick County has met the State of Colorado’s metrics to reduce the incidence rate to less than 350 per 100K and the test positivity rate less than 5 percent over 14 days, the State of Colorado has denied the county to lessen its restrictions on the local restaurants and bars.

Sedgwick County was moved from Orange Level to Red on November 27. Both the restaurants and bars elected to forego their dine-in and drink service, electing for curb service and to-go only to help reduce the spread of the virus.

Meeting the 14-day expectations, the Sedgwick County Commissioners submitted their request to return to Level Orange to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on Monday of this week. Their request was accompanied along with a letter of support from the Sedgwick County Health Center as well. It is believed that Sedgwick County is the first of Colorado’s 64 counties to request to return to lesser restrictions.

Early this afternoon the CDPHE advised Sedgwick County Commissioners via email that, “Because Sedgwick has not maintained 14 days of restored metrics at this time, it isn’t eligible just yet. We would need to see the current rates maintained through the 26th and can move forward with a dial adjustment on December 28th at the earliest.”
