CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — There are 15 counties in the highest alert level of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources' County Alert System map.
As of Monday morning's COVID-19 report, two counties that were not in the red in Sunday's report had moved to that level — Boone and Pleasants.
Both counties had positivity rates in the orange over the last few days. Boone County had been in the red less than a week earlier, and was hovering between 7.5 and 8 — 8 being the threshold for red.
Pleasants County, meanwhile, had a rate of just 5.45 as of a week earlier, but that rate continued to rise throughout the week.
The two join 13 other counties that have a positivity rate high enough to put them in red on the map, which uses the lower of its two metrics to determine a county's color.
Every West Virginia county has an infection rate that would put them in the red.
The 15 counties in the red are: Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Jackson, Mason, Mineral, Morgan, Pleasants, Preston, Ritchie and Tyler.
Another 24 counties are in the orange: Barbour, Cabell, Clay, Doddridge, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Marshall, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pocahontas, Putnam, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming.
There are eight counties in gold: Gilmer, Fayette, Marion, Monroe, Pendleton, Raleigh, Tucker and Upshur.
Four counties are in yellow: Braxton, Calhoun, Logan and Roane; with another four in green: McDowell, Randolph, Summers and Taylor.
