MANHATTAN, Kan. – Texas Tech will enter the final day of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in second place on the women's side and fifth on the men's. The women have compiled 49.5 points thus far.

Pacing the women are jumpers Monae' Nichols and Ruth Usoro, who combined for 14 in the long jump. Both landed leaps of at least 6.60m, an incredible feat for teammates at the same meet. Nichols led the way, marking a career-best 21'-8.25" (6.61m) for silver. Usoro was right behind her – literally – with a third-place 21'-8" (6.60m).

Tech secured 10.5 more points in the pole vault, where half of the podium would be taken up by Red Raiders. Ryleigh Redding continued her stellar season with a fourth-place 13'-3.5" (4.50m). Chloe Wall and Sara Tackitt topped at the same height, while Chinne Okoronkwo topped at 12'-9.5" (3.90m).

A day after multiple PRs led her to the podium in the hammer throw, Kayli Johnson would scored in the shot put. Johnson's top throw of the day, which marked 54'-9.5" (16.70m), earned her four points in fifth place.

Kaylee Hinton and Callie Jones finished third and fourth, respectively, in the heptathlon. The finishes contributed another 11 points to the score. Hinton finished with 5,729 points to finish top-three in the event for the fourth straight year. She won the hep in 2017. Jones' final day led to a total of 5,963 – a new career best.

While the women's field competitors put points on the board, the runners did well to fill up lanes in tomorrow's finals races. Three lanes of the 400m hurdles will be occupied by Red Raiders in the form of Lexye Price, Sylvia Schulz and Simone Watkins. Price clocked 58.92 to win her hear. Schulz's 59.53 placed her second in that heat, while Watkins timed 59.65  to secure the final at-large bid.

The short hurdles equaled one qualifier for each the men and women. Demisha Roswell qualified at a PR 13.17, while Maliek Kendall's 14.05 – also a PR – got him a Sunday lane.

In the traditional 400m, Sara Limp timed 53 flat to make the final. Her counterpart on the men's side, Karayme Bartley, qualified as well with a 46.38.

Middle distance saw one Red Raider make a final: Joanna Archer. Archer has had a strong season thus far full of consistency in the 800m. This time, she clocked 2:08.25 to get through to Sunday.

The 100m saw a total of three Red Raiders qualify. Two men – Jacolby Shelton and Courtney Lindsey – grabbed Sunday lanes. Shelton busted out a 10.16, while Lindsey was again in 10.2 range with a 10.29. The women's lane went to Virginia Kerley, who continued her strong year with an 11.53.

The lone Tech men's top-three finisher of the day was Jequan Hogan, who grabbed the first bronze medal of his career. Competing in the high jump, Hogan topped at an outdoor-best 6'-11" (2.11m).

More men's points came in the decathlon, thanks to Fynn Zenker and Kale Mauritsen. Both turned in strong second days, with Zenker's pushing him to 7,007 points. Mauritsen wound up with a career-best 6,731 points.

Three podium spots were claimed for Tech in the men's long jump. Clark Griffith PR'd for the second time this outdoor season with a top mark of 25'-5.25" (7.75m) for fifth place. Jalen Seals' 25'-4.75" (7.74m) was good for sixth, while Safin Wills rounded out scoring with his PR 25'-2.75" (7.69m).

In anticipation of inclement weather, Sunday's action has been moved up to 11 a.m. An updated meet schedule can be viewed here.
