WHEELING, W.Va. – Denison men's golf closed out their first NCAA Championship since 2004 on Friday afternoon as the Big Red carded a final day score of 308 to place seventh overall at the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at the Oglebay Golf Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia. This year's seventh-place finish goes down as the best in program history, with the previous coming in 2003 when DU landed in ninth place as a team.

Closing out the tournament at the par-71 Speidel Jones Course on Friday, the Big Red finished the week with an overall total of 1,188 strokes, just one stroke behind Emory in sixth place (1,187) and five strokes ahead of Christopher Newport in eighth place (1,193). The 2019 defending NCAA Champions, Illinois Wesleyan, captured the national title once again with a four-day score of 1,155, 13 strokes better than Methodist in second place.

Finishing the week in a tie for 31st place, senior Will Grady closed out his Big Red career with his third-straight 74 (+3) of the tournament. Grady tallied three birdies in his final round, including a pair on holes 2 and 8 on the front nine, while also adding a par-4 birdie on the 10th hole to end the week with a four-round score of 300.

Junior Ben Scherman followed Grady on the final day with his third round of 75 (+4) of the week. After a third-round score of 74, Scherman closed out the tournament on Friday with one of his most consistent rounds of the week. Scherman hit for par on 14 of 18 holes in the fourth round, including seven-straight pars from holes 2-8, and five-consecutive on the back nine. Scherman's overall total of 299 strokes landed him in a tie for 29th place for the week.

Denison's best finish of the week went to junior Marc Mitchell who tied for 15th overall with a four-day score of 296. Mitchell added a pair of birdies on the front nine on Friday along with five pars to finish the day with an 82. Sophomore Jesse Felker tallied two birdies on the front nine and six pars on the back nine as his final-round score of 78 led to a four-day total of 311. Sam Davis ended the week in a tie for 62nd place after his 81 on Friday led to a final score of 306, thanks to birdies on holes 5 and 18 in the final round.

Friday's round closed out a year for Denison that saw the Big Red claim their first North Coast Athletic Conference championship in school history, leading to their sixth trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Second-year head coach Lauren Grogan was also named the NCAC Coach of the Year and the Big Red tallied six victories during the regular season.
