"I thought we had a good day here in Waco," said head coach Wes Kittley. "It was good to see some of our kids open up and others have good performances in a low key meet like this."
Tech's men's 100m duo of Courtney Lindsey and Keion Sutton turned in personal bests on the straightaway. Lindsey, making his season debut, timed 10.33 to finish third. It is his fastest 100m since running 10.35 in 2019 while at Iowa Central CC. Lindsey's previous PR stands the same as Sutton's new best, which he timed to finish fourth Saturday.
"Solid openers for both of them," said assistant coach Calvin Robinson. "I thought both guys did a great job of executing their individual race plans. It's still early in the season, but we will get back to work and look forward to better performances as the season goes on."
"I loved seeing Courtney get back on the track and have a good, smooth race," said Kittley. "As for Keion, he had one of the best races I've seen from him in a long time."

Kailei Collins led the way for the women's sprinters, timing 11.87 for a season best in the 100m. Kaylor Harris made her outdoor debut in the race as well, clocking 12.06.
In his third discus competition of the season, Gabe Oladipo captured his first discus PR as a Red Raider. Oladipo's top distance came on his third throw when he landed the disc 192'-2" (58.57m) from the circle. It goes down as the fifth-farthest mark in the NCAA this season and a lifetime best for Oladipo.
"It's just been a blessing to feel progress being made," Oladipo said. "I know we're not nearly where we need to be, but it's great to have something to celebrate in the process."

Braden Darrow looked strong in what was a breakout shot put day for him this season. Darrow's top mark, 56'-3.25" (17.15m), was an outdoor lifetime best. Even more so, it is just the fourth time in his career he has thrown over 17 meters.

Chinne Okoronkwo, winner of the last three Big 12 Championships in the pole vault, got her first mark of the season Saturday. Okoronkwo topped a day's-best 13'-5.25" (4.10m), which left her the lone competitor vaulting. With her choice of bar height, she would make three attempts at 14'-5.25" (4.40m), which would have marked a new lifetime best.

Owen Likins picked up his first career outdoor win, finishing first in the 1500m. Likins ran it in 3:55.25. On the women's side, Nokuthula Dlamini PR'd with a 4:43.37 that earned her third place.
Alfred Chawonza made his 800m debut, running three seconds off his PR at 1:53.65. He finished in second place – just four-tenths of a second off the lead.
A home meet is next on the docket for the Red Raiders. Dubbed the Masked Rider Open, Tech's first home meet since 2019 will take place next Friday and Saturday.
