"The Texas Relays is a hard meet," said head coach Wes Kittley recalling last week's trip to Austin. "It's three hard days and a lot to coordinate, so we really didn't want to do too much this weekend. We've got a few people who have been sitting on the shelf, and we want to get them going this weekend in a lower pressure setting. It's a limited group, but it'll be an important weekend for some to get started and some to continue to improve."
Of those getting started, Courtney Lindsey will make his anticipated outdoor debut. Lindsey ran the sixth-fastest 200m time (20.52) and eighth-fastest 60m time (6.59) during his first indoor campaign as a Red Raider. Saturday will mark the former JUCO national champion's first outdoor meet since 2019.
Three-time and defending Big 12 pole vault champion Chinne Okoronkwo will make the trip to Waco eager to vault. Okoronkwo, who also triple jumps, is looking to get back on track in the vault. She has cleared 14-feet-plus in four of her last five meets vaulting in the Scarlet & Black.
Gabe Oladipo will throw the discus for the third weekend in a row. The Big 12 weight throw champion threw 180'-1" (54.88m) at the Texas Relays – a season best. Gabrielle McDonald will hurdle after a strong early start in the 100m hurdles. At the Wes Kittley Invitational, she timed 13.17, just one one-hundredth of a second from a career best.
The Baylor Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the hammer throw. Running events will start at 2 p.m. with the 3000m steeplechase.
