LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 8 Texas Tech baseball jumps back into midweek play for the first time in over a month as it welcomes Stephen F. Austin to town for a two-game set Tuesday-Wednesday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The opener between the Red Raiders and Lumberjacks is set for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, while the two teams will meet again at 1 p.m., Wednesday.
The entire series can be seen on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Fans can also tune in to the radio call on the Texas Tech Sports Network from Geoff Haxton and Jamie Lent.
The Red Raiders (22-7; 5-4 Big 12) will look to carry momentum forward from a series win over No. 10 TCU at home last weekend. Tech battled back from a loss in the opener to win game two off a Cal Conley walk-off blast in the 10th inning, then run-ruled the Horned Frogs on Sunday, 17-7, to secure its second series win against a top-25 team in Lubbock this season.
The Lumberjacks (12-14; 9-7 Southland) are coming off a bye weekend. They have won nine of their last 11 games and sit at fourth place in the Southland Conference. They defeated Grambling, 10-8, and lost to Texas, 9-1, in midweek action last week. The Lumberjacks are 1-3 against Big 12 teams this year, owning a 9-5 win over Oklahoma on Feb. 23 at Globe Life Field.
TICKETS & PROMOTIONS
Fans are encouraged to check www.TexasTech.com for ticket availability for upcoming home games. Season ticket holders who are unable to attend a game in which they have tickets are encouraged to utilize Texas Tech's mobile ticketing transfer platform to ensure their seats are used on gameday.
Texas Tech is offering a new 'Midweek Triple Play' ticket special. Fans can get tickets to three midweek home games for just $12 total. The offer includes both SFA games and the April 27 game against New Mexico.
Tech students receive free admission with the swipe of their student ID. Backpacks are permitted for midweek games after being scanned and tagged at the gate.
Wednesday is Tech's annual Bark in the Park day. Fans and dogs should enter at the gate down the right field line and must sign a waiver to be admitted. A dog park and water area will be designated behind the stands on the first base side. A general admission section along the third base line will be available for anyone allergic or wary of dogs.
PITCHING MATCHUP

Tuesday will mark the first career start for freshman right-hander Brendan Girton. The Gage, Oklahoma, native has made eight appearances on the season, including a season-high 3.1 innings of relief in a shutout effort against No. 6 Ole Miss on opening weekend. He last appeared with 1.2 innings pitched in the middle game at Kansas State last Friday.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Tuesday's meeting will be the sixth all-time between Tech and SFA. The two clubs met for the first time in 2007, splitting a pair of midweeks, and met again in 2014 during Tadlock's second season in Lubbock. Tech holds a 3-2 lead in the all-time series and went 2-1 in the season series against SFA in 2014.
MIDWEEK SUCCESS
Tech is 73-33 in midweek games under Tim Tadlock and 47-10 at home. The Red Raiders have been victorious in 17 of their last 23 midweek games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
The Red Raiders head into Tuesday having won 10 consecutive midweek home games. It matches the longest midweek home win streak since winning 14 consecutive from May of 2004 to March of 2006. Tech's current streak extends back to May 1, 2019 and a 19-11 win over UTRGV. Over the 10 game span, Tech has outscored its opponents 112-37, recording double-digit runs in 7-of-10 contests.
HOME DOMINANCE
Texas Tech is off to an 18-2 start at home this season and has won 30 of its last 32 home games dating back to 2019. The home success is nothing new for the Red Raiders, who are 206-54 at home under Tadlock, including 146-24 at home against non-conference opponents.
JUNG IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
In the last six games, Jace Jung is hitting 12-for-26 (.462) with seven home runs and 13 RBI. He is now tied for the national lead in home runs with South Carolina's Wes Clarke at 15 on the year. He is also tied for the national lead with 44 RBI and 96 total bases. He hit four home runs in the series with No. 10 TCU, including a three-home run game on Sunday that helped Tech run-rule the Frogs. Jung has a three-home run game in consecutive weeks and four total multi-home run games this season. He has also reached base safely in all 29 games this season.
TOP 10 OFFENSE
The Red Raiders continue to rank among the nation's best in several offensive categories, including home runs (5th), slugging percentage (5th), base on balls (6th), scoring (8th) and on base percentage (11th). Defensively, Tech ranks ninth nationally in double plays and 33rd in hits allowed per nine innings.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Red Raiders have been ranked in the top 10 by at least one of the six major polls all season. They held at No. 8 this week in the D1Baseball.com rankings and are as high as No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Tech also moved up five spots from No. 13 to No. 8 in the Perfect Game rankings.
