Coming off a seventh-place finish two weeks ago at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate, the Red Raiders will look to get back in the Golfstat top-25 rankings after falling to No. 29 heading into Monday's 8 a.m. shotgun start. Tech will play 36 holes Monday followed by a final 18 Tuesday in a similar 8 a.m. shotgun format.
The two-day, 54-hole event will be held for the first time at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. The 6,392-yard, par-72 course designed by Rees Jones and David Toms is host to the Houston Open, a mainstay event annually on the PGA Tour.
This is the third-straight season the Red Raiders have competed in the ICON Invitational as Tech recorded a pair of ninth-place finishes the past two years. Sofia Garcia managed a seventh-place finish individually a year ago following a pair of under-par to close what ultimately was Tech's final tournament of the 2019-20 season.
Garcia will headline head coach JoJo Robertson's lineup for this week as she will be joined by fellow junior Amy Taylor as well as sophomores Cecilie Nielsen and Anna Dong and freshman Gala Dumez. Junior Valentina Gilly rounds out Tech's travel party as an individual, which will mark her second tournament of the season.
Of the 15-team field, five teams rank in the top 15 by Golfstat, including No. 1 Baylor, No. 3 LSU, No. 6 Oklahoma State, last years' tournament champions No. 11 Kent State and host No. 12 Houston. The event also features No. 17 Northwestern and another Big 12 competitor in No. 34 TCU.
Live scoring will be available throughout the event via Golfstat.com.
