Oddsmakers are projecting the Detroit Red Wings to finish with more points in fewer games played in 2021 than they collected in 2019-20.
But they are still expected to finish with the worst record in the NHL.
Detroit garnered only 39 points in 66 games last season, finishing 23 points behind the next-worst team, Ottawa. The Red Wings will play only 56 games this season in a temporarily realigned Central Division that figures to be tougher than the 2019-20 Atlantic Division.
The Red Wings will play eight games each against Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay, runner-up Dallas and 2020 playoff teams Carolina, Chicago, Columbus, Florida and Nashville.
