DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings received a big boost from their second line on Saturday. But now the unit will be without its center for a couple of weeks.
The Red Wings announced prior to Monday’s game against Columbus that forwards Robby Fabbri and Adam Erne are on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list.
Michael Rasmussen replaced Fabbri at center on the line with Bobby Ryan and Filip Zadina. Frans Nielsen stepped in for Erne on the line with Luke Glendening and Mathias Brome.
Fabbri scored the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Carolina.
According to the NHL, such “COVID protocol related absences” can be the result of a number of factors including, among others: (1) an initial positive test which remains unconfirmed until confirmatory testing is completed pursuant to the positive test protocol; (2) mandated isolation for symptomatic individuals; (3) required quarantine as a high-risk close contact; (4) isolation based on a confirmed positive test result and/or; (5) quarantine for travel or other reasons.
Biega clears: Defenseman Alex Biega cleared waivers Monday. He can be assigned to the taxi squad.
Coach Jeff Blashill indicated on Sunday that the team wants to get a look at Christian Djoos, whose quarantine ended Monday and who will be joining the team for practice this week.
