The spring slate will start at the Trinity Forest Golf Club, a 6,258-yard, par 72 links-style course that was recently home to the PGA Tour's Byron Nelson Invitational. The Red Raiders will play 36 holes Monday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start followed by a similar tee time for Tuesday's final round. Due to COVID-19 protocols, each team will play together in groups of five.
This is the fourth time the Red Raiders have competed in the SMU Trinity Forest invitational as Tech recorded its best finish at the event last season in second place overall. In that same tournament, junior Sofia Garcia matched her career-best round of 8-under 64, to capture her fourth individual tournament win, which is the most by a Red Raider in school history.
Garcia, who enters the spring ranked 21st individually in the final Golfstat poll from the fall, will look to defend her title as she will be teamed with freshman Gala Dumez, sophomore Cecilie Nielsen and fellow juniors Louisa Brunt and Amy Taylor throughout the 54-hole event.
The Red Raiders will be the third-highest ranked team among the 14 participating programs, trailing only No. 1 Baylor and No. 10 Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls claimed the 2020 team title after finishing six strokes ahead of the Red Raiders.
