They’re making the most of their time in the gym.

With so many games having been postponed or canceled, the Troup Tigers have only played three basketball games in the past four weeks.

When the Tigers have played, though, they’ve taken care of business.

With Saturday’s impressive 74-59 road win over the Carrollton Trojans, Troup (5-2) extended its winning streak to five games, and it has won each of its past four games by double-digit margins.

Against Carrollton, Troup surged to a big early lead, and it was in control the rest of the way.

“It was awesome,” said Troup head coach Blake Craft. “It was really good basketball. We jumped on them, and we never looked back.”

As has been the case throughout the season, Troup’s seniors led the way.

KJ Tucker paced the Tigers with 20 points, Tre Scott and Ricco Person added 12 points apiece, and Gabe Stepp had 10 points.

Stepp was also in double digits in rebounds, and Scott had a double-double with his 12 points more than 10 assists.

“Everything we talked about, the kids ran it to perfection,” Craft said. “They missed here or there, but they’re playing basketball. Some of the kids said coach you’re a little calmer. I said, I don’t have to yell as much when you’re playing like this. It was really good basketball. The chemistry is great.”

It’s also a deep team, with 10 or more players routinely playing, and each one of them is contributing.

“We had 10 guys play, and all 10 scored,” Craft said.

After beginning the season with losses to Woodland and Lanett, Troup got into the winner’s column with a 49-47 overtime victory at Lanett.

Troup has been rolling since then with double-digit wins over LaGrange, Harris County, Handley and Carrollton.

“We’ve played some good teams, but we’ve been handling them,” said Craft, who is in his fourth season as head coach. “This might be my best team, and it’s purely on chemistry. It might not be my most talented, but it’s the way they’re playing together.”

The one disappointing aspect of the season has been the cancelations, but Craft said the players are getting after it in practice so they’re ready when the games do come around.

“We’re beating each other up in practice. They’re practicing well,” Craft said. “Right now, it’s really fun to coach. It’s extremely fun to coach.”

Troup will try to make it six wins in a row when it hosts East Coweta on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
