FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Chicago Red Stars acquired the NWSL playing rights to Razorback defender Haley VanFossen, the club announced on Wednesday afternoon. The Broken Arrow, Okla. native will join Razorback teammates Parker Goins and Taylor Malham in the NWSL in 2022 after the pair were drafted and retained by Racing Louisville FC, respectively. All three Razorbacks will use their extra year of eligibility given by the NCAA due to the Covid-19 pandemic and play with the Hogs this fall.
VanFossen, the three-time member of the All-SEC First Team, became the first SEC Defender of the Year in program history and joined Anna Podojil as the first United Soccer Coaches All-Americans in school history following the 2019 season. VanFossen has made 79 career starts in 81 games played in an Arkansas uniform.
“We are so excited for Haley being picked up by Chicago. It is a quality organization that has won trophies and has a great front office and coaches,” said Razorback head coach Colby Hale. “We are excited that Haley is coming back for another year, and we know she will do fantastic with this wonderful opportunity once she gets there!”
VanFossen led the Razorbacks to their second-straight SEC regular season crown in 2020, the only two in school history, and helped Arkansas finish No. 7 in the final fall rankings on November 24th.
