Red-hot Jets looking for first divisional win in Week 17 - Jets Wire

After going 13 straight games without a victory, the Jets have now rattled off two wins in a row.

Playing hard for a head coach whose days are numbered, the Jets knocked off two playoff teams in the Rams and Browns. Now the Jets are looking for their first divisional win of the season after securing their first home and road victories over the past two weeks.

While New York isn’t favored going into its Week 17 matchup against the Patriots, it’s facing a reeling New England team. The Patriots lost at the hands of the Bills, 38-9, on Monday night and they’re a shell of the team that was able to edge out the Jets on primetime football back in Week 9.

As Gang Green looks to deliver another upset and finally win an AFC East game, here’s a look at how the Jets fared in their previous five division matchups, in which they were outscored 119-57.

Week 1: Bills 27, Jets 17

The Bills jumped out to a 21-0 lead that New York was never able to overcome. The Jets outscored the Bills 14-6 in the second half but failed to claw back at Buffalo’s commanding lead. Josh Allen led the Bills to three consecutive touchdown drives in the first half, en route to 300 yards passing on the afternoon.

Week 6: Dolphins 24, Jets 0

The Jets never stood a chance in Miami, laying a goose egg in Joe Flacco’s first start under center. A Ryan Fitzpatrick-led offense was able to operate sufficiently, and while Miami didn’t particularly play well, it didn’t need to. This was one was over before it started, as Gang Green was mostly uncompetitive on both sides of the football.

Week 7: Bills 18, Jets 10

The Jets got out to a 10-0 lead but were only able to net 25 more yards of total offense following their second score of the day. Behind Allen’s 307 passing yards and Tyler Bass’ six made field goals, the Bills were able to score 18 unanswered points and cruise to an easy victory. The Jets’ offense managed just four total yards in the second half.

Week 9: Patriots 30, Jets 27

While the Jets offense looked the best it did all season under Flacco’s direction, the team fell flat on its faces in the second half. New York’s inability to close out a game reared its ugly head as the Jets squandered multiple 10-point leads. The Patriots scored 10 points in the final two minutes, winning in walk-off fashion on a Nick Folk 51-yard field goal.

Week 12: Dolphins 20, Jets 3

Sam Darnold returned under center and the Jets offense regressed. Despite a solid performance from the defense, New York was unable to overcome the offense’s ineptitude. The Dolphins finished off the 2020 season outscoring the Jets 44-3.
