PARKERSBURG — Seven Mid-Ohio Valley counties were red on West Virginia’s COVID-19 map Monday, indicating high rates of spread for the novel coronavirus.

In Wood, Ritchie and Tyler counties, the statistics for infections per 100,000 people and percentage of tests with positive results have been in the red for the last week, according to data posted on the state Department of Health and Human Resources’ COVID-19 dashboard.

Doddridge and Jackson counties transitioned from orange to red Dec. 17 when their percent positivity rose into the red like their infection rates. The lower of the two ratings determines the overall color on the map.

Pleasants County made the shift Dec. 15, while Wetzel did on Saturday.

Calhoun and Roane counties are in the second-lowest category, yellow, while Gilmer County – which recorded its first death from the virus last week – is in the middle, on gold.
