A man who authorities said intentionally put himself in the way of a Red Line train in Cambridge over the weekend died after being struck by the vehicle, news outlets reported.
The individual was hit by the train at Central Square station late Sunday and was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, WHDH reported.
The man purposefully entered the right of way of the train at the time he was hit, MBTA Transit Police told the news outlet.
The MBTA tweeted shortly before 11:50 p.m. Sunday that shuttle buses would be replacing Red Line train service between Harvard and Park Street stations while authorities responded to a person under a train at Central Square station.
“Please expect delays as buses are sent,” the MBTA wrote.
Authorities have yet to publicly identify the man.
