CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Boone County moved out of the red Tuesday, just a day after it moved into the highest level of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources' County Alert System.
The county's positivity rate — a rolling average of COVID-19 test results in the county that return positive — dropped to 7.57 Tuesday, bringing it below the threshold of 8 for red and moving it back down to orange.
The county continues to maintain an infection rate that, were it the deciding factor, would put the county in red — as does every county in the state. The map applies whichever metric gives a county the lower color.
Jackson County also dropped from red to orange Tuesday. The county has a positivity rate of 7.83.
Meanwhile, Marshall County has moved into the red. Its positivity rate as of Tuesday is 8.03, just past the threshold.
The other 13 counties that were in the red as of Monday's report remained there Tuesday.
The counties in red are: Berkeley, Brooke, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Marshall, Mason, Mineral, Morgan, Pleasants, Preston, Ritchie and Tyler.
A total of 26 counties, nearly half of all counties in the state, are in the orange: Boone, Cabell, Clay, Doddridge, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pocahontas, Putnam, Wayne, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming.
Eight counties are in gold: Barbour, Calhoun, Fayette, Monroe, Pendleton, Raleigh, Tucker and Upshur.
Four counties are in yellow: Braxton, Logan, Roane and Taylor; while just three are in green: McDowell, Randolph and Summers.
