CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The 2020 Presidential election voting breakdown shows a country and Congress broken down by sharp divisions, a United States of disunity. Disunity both in the nation as a whole but also in the individual states, regardless if they were won by Joe Biden or President Trump.

For the most part, President Trump was shown dominating in the rural areas. Former Vice President Joe Biden won in the urban and suburban areas of the nation and individual states.

As of this writing, Biden leads with 264 electoral votes to 214 for Trump. Biden may need to win just one other state to reach the 270 threshold making him president-elect. Trump needs to win several.

Though Biden has won some states by just thousands of votes, it should be remembered that in 2016 Trump won some of those same states by even smaller margins than Biden. Trump on the 2016 electoral college by under 80,000 votes. Biden could win by the same margin in 2020.

Biden is on pace to win the popular vote by more than 4 million, a margin exceeding that of Hillary Clinton in 2016 and President Obama in 2008.

Despite Biden’s large popular vote, the nation still is sharply divided and the Congress will be even more divided than it was in 2016 and 2018. Though Democrats still control the House, Republicans gained back seats. And Republicans look like they may be able to retain control of the Senate, but by an even slimmer margin.

We may know the result of the presidential election today, or Friday, the latest, when Pennsylvania’s vote counting is completed.

Whoever becomes president-elect will have to govern under gridlock and without a clear mandate from the electorate.

Biden was elected to the Senate in 1972 and has always loved serving in the body. Though Trump falsely tagging Biden as a socialist won Trump plenty of Latino votes, and likely Florida, the fact is Biden is a moderate centrist that has leaned to the right as much as he has to the left.

That centrist record of Biden is one reason so many experienced Republican office holders voted for and endorsed him. Biden has also already let it be known that he’s open to having Republicans serve in his cabinet, including former Republican Ohio Governor John Kasich.

Biden followed his long stint in the Senate serving 8 years as Vice President in the Obama administration that took office in a major recession. They left office with the economy restored and booming, that Trump inherited and claimed credit for.

Job number 1 of whoever becomes President of the United States must be having a responsible response to the Coronavirus and unify the nation behind that response.

In terms of personality, experience, character and competence, former Vice President Joe Biden is best suited for the challenges that await and reunifying the United States.
