INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team tried to recapture some normalcy on Friday (Sept. 11) as the Jaguars split the team and played its first intrasquad match of the fall at Carroll Stadium. Sophomore Ciena Miller accounted for the day's only goal and AP Woodall authored a shutout in leading the Red Team, which consisted of the sophomore and junior classes, to victory.
Miller's roommate and classmate Maya Lacognato, the reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, delivered the assist on the game-winner.
"I was just in the right place at the right time, but I credit Maya with the roomie connection," Miller said.
Miller is coming off a campaign in which she made nine appearances off the Jaguars' bench and is one of many vying for a larger role this season.
Woodall will also be taking on a larger role this season as she moves to the No. 1 goalkeeper after being voted to the Horizon League's All-Freshman Team in 2019. She made nine appearances (seven starts) last year and logged a 0.60 goals against average and three shutouts with a 3-1-1 record.
Woodall stymied the white team's attack, despite facing tests on frame from Sam Slimak, Carlie Werner and Valentine Pursey.
The same sides are expected to rematch this coming week.
