AUSTIN, Texas – The Republican National Convention is underway and supporters of President Donald Trump continue to make his case for re-election. While Trump continues to boast about being able to hold on to Texas, his re-election team says it is not taking the state for granted. One Texas delegate said the efforts to re-elect Trump are far more organized and unified compared to four years ago.

- Recent survey had Democratic nominee Joe Biden up by 1 point after DNC
- Texas has voted Republican for 10 consecutive presidential elections
Family is what inspired Toni Anne Dashiell’s more than 50-year career in grassroots organizing. It got her to start campaigning for Richard Nixon in high school.
“My father was in World War II. We talked about the love of our country, and how important it was, or is,” Dashiell said.
Fast forward to 2004, when she first became a Texas delegate. The 66-year-old has been one ever since. The Kendall County resident was at the RNC when the delegation first nominated Donald Trump in 2016, and she was in Charlotte on Monday, during the RNC’s scaled-down roll call for Trump’s re-nomination. Dashiell was one of the six Texas delegates who got to go to North Carolina and she tells Spectrum News she still misses the mass networking.

“It's an opportunity for states to connect, you know, because they come across from all over their states. They connect, then you connect with all the other states out there, and you build on momentum and you hear what other people are doing,” she said.
Hearing what others are doing is helpful for Dashiell, who is also the Texas Republicans’ national committeewoman. She said the efforts to help Trump carry Texas again have been ramped up since 2016, with a huge push to register voters, knock on doors, and call supporters. But now, it’s in a more organized fashion, she said.

“We were constantly building on volunteers, constantly sending out the message, and now, you know, in all these battleground states, we have built the momentum, and the people are excited to be able to come out,” Dashiell said.
Excitement about Trump’s message, which Republicans hope resonates with Texans as polls show a tight race at the top of the ticket.
Results released Tuesday from Public Policy Polling show Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden emerged from his convention last week with a one-point lead over Trump in Texas. The survey was done Friday and Saturday after last week's convention and said Biden’s small lead comes from high strength among female and minority voters.

Texas Democrats are using momentum from gains made in 2018 in their efforts to try to flip the state for the former vice president. Party officials said they have reached out to more than 3.5 million potential voters over the last two weekends and have sent vote-by-mail applications to nearly 2 million Texans.
But, Republicans have carried Texas in 10 consecutive presidential elections.
“We are not giving up the state. It's staying red,” Dashiell said.
